DIY Artificial Turf Installation Guide
A great-looking turf lawn starts with a solid base. Here is the general process our customers follow.
- Plan and measure. Measure your area, sketch the layout and note which direction the turf grain will face.
- Remove existing grass. Excavate about 3–4 inches of soil and roots.
- Build the base. Spread crushed rock or decomposed granite, grade for drainage and compact it firmly.
- Add a weed barrier (optional) over the compacted base.
- Roll out the turf and let it relax in the sun, keeping all fibers pointing the same way.
- Cut and seam. Trim edges with a sharp utility knife and join rolls with seam tape and adhesive.
- Secure the perimeter with landscape staples or nails every 6–8 inches.
- Spread infill evenly and brush the fibers upright.
